Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis show the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important political figure said the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
